Seasonal Tips: Spring Cleaning

As winter comes to a close, there are opportunities to shake off the cold and start fresh! This means taking advantage of the improving Spring weather to tackle some cleaning and organization in your home beyond the regular routines.

Window Cleaning
Give your windows a good clearing and cleaning. With increasing sunlight, clean windows can be an excellent step in brightening up your home. But, it is best to clean windows on cloudy days so the cleaner doesn’t dry up too fast. Plain water and a microfiber cloth is sometimes enough to get a streak free clean.

Doorways
Many people forget their doorways as a spot to clean. If your home has sliding doors, scrubbing the tracks with an old toothbrush, vacuuming, and finishing off with a wet sponge can clear them right up. Cleaning in the hinges and other hidden spots is a great idea every once in a while for other doors. Don’t forget to dust on the door frames!
Forgotten surfaces and spaces
Sometimes there are places in our homes that we forget need cleaned. Baseboards, corners, under furniture, in drawers, cabinets, and under/inside appliances are a few places you may forget in your regular cleanings.

Dusting
Spring often increases pollen, and winter sometimes means more dust accrues. It is a perfect time to dust off light fixtures, vents, and hard to reach corners of your home.

Re-Organization
It can be a good time of year to sort through and reorganize your belongings, especially in closets, kitchens, and bathrooms. Decide new places that make more sense, reorganize, and if necessary, find new homes for things. If you are throwing some things away, follow the disposal guidelines for where you live.

Mind the Mud
Rainy weather and wanting to be outside more means mud is a more common concern. A new mat for inside your door may help if you don’t have one.
